Patron's rights FAQ

Patron's rights FAQ

What does it mean to be a rights holder?

Being an Areté Patron's rights holder means that you will be able to pre-order all our future titles before the public pre-sale, keeping the same letter or number for each, provided you purchase every newly published book. You will receive an email before the public pre-sale inviting you to purchase the newest title.

How do I become a rights holder?

Patron's rights started with the release of Brave New World. In order to have been eligible, you must have purchased a first- or second-tier edition from us previously. Rights become available if a rights holder doesn't buy a title, in which case they relinquish their rights, which are offered to non-rights buyers on a first-come, first-served basis.

If I sell my book, can I also sell my rights?

No. The rights remains with the customer who purchased the book directly from us.

How many copies hold rights?

There are thirty first-tier and 150 second-tier rights copies. All our future editions will be large enough for all rights holders to buy copies.

Which states of Areté books have rights?

Both the first- and second-tier editions have rights.

What happens if I don’t purchase the next title?

You would lose your rights and your number/letter would be offered to someone else.

If rights become available, how will they be re-allocated?

They will be offered to buyers of the latest title available at the time on a first-come, first-served basis.

Will you be selling any non-rights copies?

Yes. We will make sure that there will always be copies of both states available for public pre-sale. These copies will not carry rights. The number of non-rights first-tier copies for public pre-sale will be strictly limited to no more than five, and may be fewer than that.

Are rights copies the same price as non-rights copies?

Yes. Both Patrons' Rights and general sale copies are the same price.
